Short Introduction

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) houses a library, museum, archive and a school. The collections are focused on 19th-20th Century American painting, photography and sculpture.

Muybridge highlights include an illustrated letter from Muybridge to PAFA regarding his room and projection setup preferences for the lecture he delivered on 12th February 1883 and the invitation card for the reception given by Muybridge to the “subscribers to his work ‘Animal Locomotion’ for the purpose of examining the proof impressions of the plates.”
