Short Introduction

The UCLA Library system, ranked among the top ten research libraries in North America, is a campus-wide network of libraries serving programs of study and research in many fields. Its collections encompass more than nine million volumes, as well as archives, audiovisual materials, corporate reports, government publications, microforms, technical reports, and other scholarly resources. Nearly forty thousand serial titles are received regularly.

The UCLA Library also provides access to a growing collection of digital resources, including reference works, electronic journals, and other full-text titles and images.

UCLA Library Special Collections collect, preserve, and make accessible rare and unique materials in engineering, humanities, life and physical sciences, medicine, performing and visual arts, social sciences, and university history. Collections encompass audio and video recordings; corporate records; correspondence; drawings, paintings, prints, and posters; manuscripts, including musical scores and plays, radio, and film scripts; maps and atlases; medical artifacts; oral history recordings and transcripts; personal papers; photographs; rare books; sheet music; and ephemeral materials in a variety of other formats.

The uncatalogued Muybridge collection here consists of 51 mammoth prints of Yosemite 751/2 x 9 prints of Central America and 5 Stereoscopic views.

Catalogued Muybridge items include an 11 plate Panorama of San Francisco from California Street Hill, 14 mounted Yosemite photographs, 81 leaves of plates from the Attitudes of Animals in Motion, and a folded photomechanical 1877 panorama in a booklet.

Publications include 6 books written by Muybridge in his time, 36 books about Muybridge and 108+ articles.
