Short Introduction
The Society of Califonia Pioneers has a photography collection of over 50,000 items.
The collection of Muybridge photos includes approximately 240 images by Muybridge. Some are in the Charles B. Turrill Collection (this collection is much larger. Turrill was a photographer, and many of the items in his collection are his own photographs, but many are his copies of other photographers images). Approx. 50 of the above images are stereo cards; 16 of the above are panoramic images – some parts of a multi part panorama. Indeed, within the Muybridge collection here are 2 Pnaoramas, one being a rare 13-part example. Topics include San Francisco (city, buildings, businesses, churches), California cities and landscape in general, Mission, Yosemite, etc. The era covered is mainly the second half of the 19th century.
