Short Introduction

The Photography Collection at the V&A is one of the largest and most important in the world. It is international and ranges from 1839 to the present. (http://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/photography/index.html)

The collection holds 750+ Muybridge images, including the complete set of Animal Locomotion, which were purchased as they were published. The National Arts Library holds publications about Muybridge that are available to the public and can be searched online.


Past Exhibitions

V & A occasionally exhibit one or two images in the Photography Gallery annual re-display (2008 was the last time), but have not put on a major exhibition.


Rights & Reproduction Information

It is possible to save single copies of images from the V&A website, free of charge, for personal use. Low resolution images which are not in copyright may also be published on non commercial third party websites.

High resolution images may not be used on websites without permission.
