Short Introduction

The British Library contains well over 150 million items within its holdings. These holdings not only incllude books, but also 'manuscripts, maps, newspapers, magazines, prints and drawings, music scores, and patents'. (

In relation to Muybridge, the collection contains a bound 1887 set of 'Animal Locomotion' plates, as well as 1891 copies of 'Animal Locomotion'; an 1893 copy of 'Descriptive Zoopraxography' on microfilm; an 1899 'Animals in Motion' volume, and 2 copies of the 1901 'Human Figure in Motion', one of which is abridged.
