Short Introduction

The Rare Books and Manuscripts department holds printed material as well as photographs, coins and maps.

Collection includes an unbound first edition portfolio of prints from Muybridge's work in Pennsylvania - held in the rare books department. Also a group of photographs attributed to Muybridge but appropriated by John Soule.


Rights & Reproduction Information

Researchers must make a written request for permission to quote or publish manuscripts in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, or for one-time permission to reproduce images of any items found in the Department. More Information

Accessibility of Muybridge Collections to Public:
With the exception of the Scheide and Cotsen Children's Libraries, no appointment is necessary to use our holdings, but registration, including the presentation of photo identification (e.g., a driver's license) is required on arrival.

The Department's collections do not circulate outside our reading rooms, but photoduplication services are available. A reference librarian or archivist is on duty at all times, and curatorial assistance is available on request. Researchers should feel free to contact us prior to their visit with any questions they may have.
